Program Questions

Am I eligible to register for the ECDS Orientation?

Participants must be presently employed at a licensed child care facility in Nova Scotia and have access to a computer with high-speed internet access.
  • You are currently employed with a NS Licensed Child Care Facility.
  • You are currently associated as a Regulated Family Home Day Care provider.
    or
    If you are NOT currently employed with a NS Licensed Child Care Facility or in a Regulated Family Home Day Care,
    you have been pre-approved by Child Care Classification Services to receive School-Age Training Approval upon completion of the orientation / as an internationally educated learner.
  • You have access to a computer with high speed Internet access.
  • You are a resident of Nova Scotia.

How long will it take to complete the orientation?

The orientation will take approximately 48 hours to complete. Participants can expect to spend approximately 3 hours working on each session. This time includes:
  • Reviewing materials online, completing check point exercise and an online learning journal
  • Participating in discussions
  • Contacting your coach to discuss your progress, as needed
Sessions can be completed in multiple settings. Participants can access the orientation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from any computer with internet access.

ALL learners must complete all requirements by February 28, 2018. No extensions will be issued and there will be no exceptions to this practice.

What is required to complete the orientation?

  • Reviewing the learning materials online
  • Completing the session check point exercises
  • Completing all activities in the learning journal
  • Participating in discussions
  • Completing the course evaluation at the end of the orientation

Is there any support available for learners?

Yes. Every participant is assigned a coach who can help them with questions or concerns they may have about the content or the activities. Participants can contact their coach email.

What do I do when I complete the orientation?

On completion of the orientation you will receive a completion certificate. You are eligible to apply for a child care staff Entry Level Classification, or a Level 1 or School-Age Training Approval if additional training requirements have been met.

How to Register

How long do learners have to complete the orientation?

You have 180 days (6 months) to complete the course from the time you were granted access into the course or until February 28, 2018 whichever date occurs first.

ALL learners must complete all requirements by February 28, 2018. No extensions will be issued and there will be no exceptions to this practice.

Web-based Delivery

What is online learning?

Online learning allows participants to complete the orientation without attending formal classes. The orientation can be completed on your own schedule, anywhere that you have internet access.

Can a participant get a replacement password if previous password was forgotten?

Is there a time limit in which the participant must complete the whole orientation before the password expires?
